Berber carpet “Chaine”, hand-knotted around 1975 in the style of Beni Mrirt from the Middle Atlas, Morocco
“Chaine” is more than just a rug — it is a woven force field of connection, protection and symbolism. The classic chain pattern tells of support, order and inner orientation. Rare details make it unique with depth:
Assessment of origin & age
This piece is most likely from the Beni Mrirt or Beni Ourain region in Morocco's central Atlas Mountains. The typical diamond pattern with a chain-like sequence is deeply rooted in Berber tradition, but can hardly be found in this dense, handcrafted version.
A rug that not only connects spaces but also times.
“Chaine” develops its power in spaces with clarity and meaning.
With its calm, rhythmic structure, it provides stability and orientation — ideal for living spaces that convey peace but should not appear sterile. It is particularly effective in minimalist settings with natural materials such as stone, wood or travertine.
The symbolism of the interlocking diamonds looks like a woven anchor: They create centering — without dominating. Whether in the living room, in an entrance area with architectural significance or in quiet zones such as practice, gallery or meditation rooms — “Chaine” holds the space.
For interior lovers, yoga studios, gallery spaces, healing practices or aesthetes who consciously design spaces — on an emotional and energetic level.
A rug for people who design consciously — with depth, attitude and respect for what happened.
We deliver worldwide — free of charge. Each rug is shipped safely and insured from our warehouse in Austria. Depending on the region, the delivery time is approx. 2 to 10 working days. Customs duties may apply outside the EU and are to be borne by the recipient.
“Chaine” has the spiritual number 6 — symbol of harmony, heart energy and protection.
The chain pattern, consisting of interlocking diamonds, stands for stability and binding in the Amazigh culture. Each rhombus is a link in a larger whole — such as relationships, memories, or rituals that keep us alive.
The indigo blue closing line looks like a silent protective ring. The single green thread rests inside the rug like a hidden blessing for renewal. And the multicolor twine on the back? A type of woven talisman — a sign of memory, origin and quiet magic.
A rug that not only protects but also strengthens. For spaces that are worn consciously.
“Chaine” was hand-knotted in the Middle Atlas around 1975 — using the classic Beni Mrirt technique with tight weaving and particular precision. The chain pattern of interlocking diamonds symbolizes connection, structure and emotional orientation.
The wool is natural, soft and has a nice patina. Three rare details are particularly striking:
These signs are not decorative, but an expression of living Berber tradition — and make Chaine to a textile eyewitness with spiritual depth.
Nomades7 is more than a brand — it is a curated collection of individual textile pieces with origin, attitude and soul. Each rug is made entirely by hand by Berber women in the Moroccan Atlas Mountains. Alexander Heritsch selects these pieces locally — not based on their appearance, but on the basis of energy, symbolism and history. We believe that spaces need more than beautiful things — they need meaning. That's why we don't sell mass-produced goods, but woven time. Each piece is unique that not only lies — but also works.
And that a hand-knotted rug doesn't just lie — it stays.
